Panasonic Avionics, the Irvine, California, in-flight entertainment and connectivity company, is adding AI to its software through personalisation and an open onboard application platform.
With more than 3,300 staff, it sells the Astrova seatback system, which has more than 30 airline customers, plus connectivity and media services; these are not counted as AI. Its AI sits in Converix, a platform unveiled in 2025, and in Modular Interactive, which personalises entertainment based on passenger behaviour.
Saudia signed for Converix across 39 Boeing 787s, and Riyadh Air is launch customer for Modular Interactive. Astrova customers include flydubai, Azerbaijan Airlines and Icelandair.

Panasonic Astrova and Modular Interactive on Azerbaijan Airlines' A320neo family fleet
Panasonic Avionics' Astrova and Modular Interactive entered commercial service with Azerbaijan Airlines on its Airbus A320neo family fleet, Panasonic and PAX International reported on 4 June 2026.
Eleven aircraft carry the system so far, six A321neos and five A320neos, out of 22 in total.
Panasonic Avionics' Astrova inflight entertainment system flew for the first time on an Airbus A321XLR operated by Saudia, Panasonic said on 2 June 2026.
The company added that the programme was the first deployment of its Modular Interactive platform and Arc map in Saudi Arabia.
flydubai has selected Panasonic Avionics' Astrova inflight entertainment system for its 30 Boeing 787-9s on order, the airline announced on 19 November 2025. The deal also covers Converix, which Panasonic says will help flydubai increase digital engagement and loyalty and improve operational efficiency.
flydubai says Astrova will let it offer richer content, smarter personalisation and a more intuitive interface, and Panasonic highlights 4K screens. The system will enter service when the 787 joins the fleet. No first-delivery date for the 787-9s or details of how personalisation will work were given as of 16 October 2026.
Riyadh Air will be the first airline to launch Panasonic Avionics' Modular Interactive, which it has chosen for its Astrova inflight entertainment launch, Panasonic said on 9 April 2025.
Panasonic Avionics signed an agreement to install its Astrova inflight entertainment system on Icelandair's A321neo LR fleet, PAX International reported on 2 January 2024.
Icelandair went on to become the first airline to fly with Astrova, Panasonic said on 2 December 2024.
