biometrics_border

IDEMIA, the French biometrics and digital identity group, supplies face-based passenger processing and border control systems to airports.

Lyon Saint-Exupery (LYS) uses its MONA contactless biometric journey in a limited deployment. Airports Company South Africa awarded it an automated border control and single-token contract for Johannesburg (JNB) in 2023 and terminated it in August 2024.

Aerostack holds limited verified information on IDEMIA. This profile covers what the register can confirm and will be extended as evidence is reviewed.

MONA biometric journey trial at Lyon Saint-Exupéry

Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport · IDEMIA

VINCI Airports chose IDEMIA and RESA for MONA, a contactless biometric passenger journey at Lyon Saint-Exupéry, with a one-year trial to start on 15 October 2020 on flights within the EU, beginning with TAP and Transavia to Portugal, IDEMIA said on 5 October 2020.

After more than two years of trials, biometric use had risen from 8% to 25% between October 2020 and May 2023, Biotime reported on 9 July 2024. It said 92% of users were satisfied and 96% would use it again, on flights to Lisbon, Porto and Corsica with TAP, Transavia and Air Corsica.
