Futurice, a Helsinki digital consultancy founded in 2000, built the facial-recognition check-in pilot run by Finnair and Finavia at Helsinki (HEL) in 2017.

It is a consultancy rather than a product supplier, and the register records no other aviation work.

Aerostack holds limited verified information on Futurice. This profile covers what the register can confirm and will be extended as evidence is reviewed.

Finnair and Finavia face-recognition check-in pilot at Helsinki Airport, May 2017

Helsinki-Vantaa Airport · Futurice

Finnair and Finavia, working with the Finnish digital consultancy Futurice, tested face recognition for check-in on Finnair flights at Helsinki Airport from 2 to 23 May 2017, according to their joint release of 2 May. Finnair invited 1,000 frequent flyers to take part, and the companies said they would gather information on how well the technology suited the airport environment and the airline's systems.

The test followed a 2016 trial at the employee security control, and Finavia's 2018 overview still described it as a pilot. Finavia's wider 2018 programme of trials is a separate record.

No production rollout of face check-in followed in the sources. Match accuracy and passenger feedback have not been confirmed either way.

Profile data from the Aerostack companies register; deployment records from the verified register. Evidence grades: T1 first-party confirmation, T2 credible reporting. See Our approach for how records are graded.

Aerostack tracks AI deployments across airports and airlines, with the published evidence behind each record. Photography is real aviation imagery. Record thumbnails may show the named airport or airline; other photographs do not.
