Waygate Technologies
Waygate Technologies, a Baker Hughes business, makes industrial inspection equipment, including the Mentor Visual iQ+ borescope, whose AI recognises defects inside engines.
Founded in 2004 and based in Hurth, Germany, with 1,001 to 5,000 staff, it co-developed the defect recognition with GE Aerospace from 2023, with GE supplying training data and Waygate the algorithms and hardware. Both published measured results in 2024: true positives up 33.6 per cent and false positives down 13.5 per cent.
The AI-assisted inspection runs across GE Aerospace's MRO network on GEnx and LEAP compressors, and automated templates for GEnx went live in April 2026. It is available to all Mentor Visual iQ+ users through a software update.

Products & Solutions
3 productsMentor Visual iQ+ (MViQ+)
Advanced video borescope system for aviation engine and airframe inspection, providing high-definition imagery, 3D measurement capability, and AI-assisted defect detection in a ruggedised handheld unit.
Aviation engine borescope inspection requires high-resolution imaging and accurate dimensional measurement in confined spaces. The MViQ+ provides the image quality and measurement accuracy needed for regulatory sign-off while reducing inspection time.
- High-definition video borescope imaging
- 3D measurement and sizing capability
- AI-assisted defect detection (Aero-assist integration)
- MIL-STD-810H ruggedised construction

Aero-assist AI
AI-powered defect detection and classification module for MViQ+ borescope inspection, trained on aviation engine imagery to automatically identify nine defect types and provide objective sizing and severity assessment during inspection.
Manual borescope inspection defect assessment is subjective and dependent on inspector experience. AI-assisted detection standardises defect identification, reduces inspector fatigue-driven variability, and speeds up inspection workflows.
- Detection of 9 aviation engine defect types
- AI model trained on 4,000+ validated inspection images
- 45% improvement in detection rate vs previous generation
- Automated defect sizing and severity classification

- 9 defect type detection capability
- 4,000+ validation image training set
InspectionWorks
Cloud-based NDT inspection data management and collaboration platform enabling MRO operators and airlines to store, share, analyse, and collaborate on borescope and NDT inspection findings from multiple sites and inspectors.
NDT inspection data from multiple inspectors and sites is stored in disconnected local systems, making fleet-wide trending, remote expert review, and audit trail management difficult.
- Cloud storage of NDT and borescope inspection records
- Remote inspection review and collaboration
- Fleet-wide inspection trend analysis
- Regulatory audit trail and documentation
