Moonware, a US company spun out of Uber Elevate, builds HALO, software that directs ground-handling crews and vehicles on the apron using live location data. It runs at four airports, from New York JFK (JFK) to Mexico City's Felipe Angeles (NLU).
Founded in 2021 with 11 to 50 staff, it raised a 7 million US dollar seed round in March 2024 and about 9.5 million in total. HALO replaces the separate tools ground handlers use to dispatch staff and equipment; variants for military airbases and vertiports have no revenue yet.
British Airways and dnata use it at JFK, Aerocharter at Los Angeles (LAX) and PrimeFlight at Felipe Angeles, where it handles more than 50 flights a day. Japan Airlines and JAL Ground Service trialled it at Tokyo Haneda (HND) in 2025.

Moonware HALO ground traffic control test at Tokyo Haneda
Moonware said on 8 July 2025 that it would test HALO, its ground traffic control platform, at Tokyo International Airport with Japan Airlines and JAL Ground Service. In an undated review of its 2025 work, Moonware says HALO supported JAL's vision for a more connected and data-driven airfield.
PrimeFlight is to use Moonware's HALO, which Moonware describes as powered by AI, to manage passenger and cargo operations for more than 50 daily flights at Felipe Ángeles International, Moonware announced on 16 January 2025.
Its later review of 2025 says PrimeFlight adopted HALO at the airport, also known as Mexico City Santa Lucía.
Moonware launched its HALO ground-operations system at Los Angeles International in March 2024 with Aerocharter USA, a subsidiary of Mexico's largest ground handler. HALO uses advanced AI and real-time data analytics, the company said on 13 March 2024.
Under a partnership with IAG, Moonware's HALO ground-traffic-control platform was handling all British Airways flights at JFK Terminal 8, working alongside ground handler dnata, Moonware said on 7 March 2024.
The company describes HALO as using AI capabilities.
AI-powered Ground Traffic Control (GTC) platform that centralizes and automates airside ground operations. Provides real-time visibility of aircraft, ground support equipment, and crew across the airfield via an interactive map.
The problem it addresses
Fragmented, siloed ground operations tools requiring multiple legacy systems for crew scheduling, resource allocation, telematics, flight tracking, and communications. Manual coordination via walkie-talkies and paper processes leads to delayed turnarounds, resource inefficiency, and limited operational visibility.
Key features
AI-driven dynamic task assignment and resource dispatch based on real-time flight schedule changes
Interactive airfield map with live aircraft, GSE, and crew positioning
Turnaround progress visualization with completed and remaining task tracking
Auto-generated secure group chats per turnaround for all stakeholders
8 more features
Timestamped task logging with photo evidence for compliance and SLA documentation
Crew certification and qualification management with expiration tracking
Performance analytics including on-time performance trends and turnaround benchmarking
Custom events checklist with configurable data capture
Real-time alerts and push notifications for schedule changes and operational disruptions
Crew productivity metrics (work time and idle time analysis)
Cross-device support: smartphone, tablet, desktop, smartwatch, Apple Vision Pro
24/7 in-app support

Command-and-Control (C2) platform for military airbase operations, built on the same technical foundation as HALO but tailored for defense requirements. NOVA automates resource allocation, mission generation, personnel dispatching, and real-time asset tracking across airbase flightlines.
The problem it addresses
Military airbases relying on manual, legacy flightline management processes that limit mission readiness, turnaround speed, and the ability to operate effectively in austere or contingency environments.
Key features
Automated C2 for mission generation and aircraft turnaround management
Real-time unified asset tracking of aircraft, personnel, and equipment across airbase nodes
Algorithmic resource allocation and team dispatching
Support for concurrent multi-aircraft servicing
4 more features
Modular plug-and-play deployment with no external power requirement
Agile Combat Employment (ACE) and AEF planning tools
Contingency response with dynamic resource redeployment
Full C2 fidelity across main bases and austere environments
Software platform under development for advanced air mobility (AAM) vertiport operations. Designed to streamline eVTOL servicing and crew coordination at vertiports through intelligent resource allocation, process automation, and real-time data integration.
The problem it addresses
Vertiport operators lack purpose-built coordination software capable of handling the high flight throughput, limited real estate, and complex eVTOL ground handling requirements of advanced air mobility operations.
Autonomous ground vehicle under development, designed specifically for vertiport operations. Intended to tow and handle eVTOL aircraft and other small aircraft from touchdown to takeoff.
The problem it addresses
Manual towing and ground handling of eVTOL aircraft at vertiports introduces risk, inconsistency, and throughput bottlenecks that autonomous handling could eliminate.
Key features
Autonomous towing and handling of eVTOL and small aircraft
Real-time ground movement coordination integrated with ORION platform
Designed for precise aircraft positioning from touchdown to takeoff

Market context
Moonware's HALO platform is the world's first AI-powered "Ground Traffic Control" system, algorithmically coordinating ground crew, equipment, and vehicles in real time rather than through manual radio dispatch.

The addressable market is all commercial aviation ground operations, which costs airlines tens of billions annually in delays attributable to ground-side inefficiency.
Primary competitors are legacy operations management systems from IBS Software, INFORM, and Amadeus.
