At JFK, the most useful AI stories are terminal-specific: TurnaroundControl at Terminal 4, ground-traffic management for British Airways at Terminal 8 and biometric international-arrival processing. None should be mistaken for a single airport-wide programme.

The picture at New York JFK
A busy airport without a single operating model
JFK has several terminal operators, airline partners and federal border agencies. That matters when interpreting technology announcements. A system working at one terminal does not automatically operate across another.
At Terminal 4, Assaia's camera analysis watches ground-handling events. At Terminal 8, British Airways has used Moonware's HALO for ground-traffic coordination. A separate Enhanced Passenger Processing initiative involves US Customs and Border Protection.
The reported deployments span real operational decisions, but the performance figures are largely supplier or trade-publication claims with limited independent comparison.

Watching Terminal 4 turnarounds
The operational problem
An aircraft stand can become occupied longer than planned when ground tasks slip unnoticed.
What the sources report
JFKIAT deployed Assaia's ApronAI TurnaroundControl at Terminal 4, according to Airports International in 2021. Assaia later claimed reduced delays and improved gate availability in its case study.
Why it matters
Computer vision has a plausible operational role when it turns task observations into earlier interventions.
What remains unproven
Five-minute delay and 25% gate-availability improvements come from Assaia; independent methodology and time period are not established.
Evidence supports a reported claim; it does not automatically establish a measured operating benefit.

Directing ground movements at Terminal 8
The operational problem
Ground handling requires sequencing vehicles and work around arriving and departing aircraft.
What the sources report
Moonware said HALO was handling ground traffic for British Airways flights at JFK Terminal 8 in partnership with IAG and ground handler dnata by March 2024.
Why it matters
This is an airline- and terminal-specific operating deployment, not an airport-wide automated movement system.
What remains unproven
The current record lacks independently confirmed throughput or delay savings attributable to HALO.
Evidence supports a reported claim; it does not automatically establish a measured operating benefit.

What else is happening at New York JFK?
Enhanced Passenger Processing for international arrivals is tracked separately at Terminals 4 and 8 with CBP and BigBear.ai. The biometric process should not be conflated with aircraft turnaround technology.
Enhanced Passenger Processing for international arrivals at JFK Terminals 4 and 8 · Deployed · limited scope
JFKIAT announced a collaboration to launch Enhanced Passenger Processing for international arrivals with US Customs and Border Protection and BigBear.ai, Airport Improvement reported on 6 June 2025. Eleven days later BigBear.ai listed JFK's Terminals 4 and 8 among its deployments for the process.
Evidence supports a reported claim; it does not automatically establish a measured operating benefit.
Scope is part of the story
JFK illustrates why Aerostack should attach claims to a terminal, operator and time period rather than just an airport name.
A future airport-wide summary would need evidence that the systems have expanded beyond those stated boundaries.

Aerostack tracks AI deployments across airports and airlines, with the published evidence behind each record. Photography is real aviation imagery. Record thumbnails may show the named airport or airline; other photographs do not.
