Mask-on face-recognition boarding and the CAAC smart-aviation pilot at Chengdu Shuangliu

Digital twin / AOP · Supplier: CloudWalk

Current reported state

Deployed

Chengdu Shuangliu began using an intelligent face-recognition algorithm that works on masked passengers at its boarding gates in January 2021, taking about one second per person, China Science Daily reported on 29 January 2021. CloudWalk face recognition was brought in for the system.

In March 2024 the Civil Aviation Administration of China approved Shuangliu as a full-process smart-aviation pilot, in a notice signed on 4 March and posted on 8 March.

Sichuan Airport Group leads the pilot with CAAC's Southwest Air Traffic Management Bureau and its Second Research Institute.

The notice sets targets for the following one to two years, not results: taxi time down 8%, handling efficiency up 10%, release punctuality up about two percentage points, a 75% bridge rate and load closure at least five minutes earlier.
