Outsight LiDAR spatial-intelligence people-flow monitoring at SJO
Juan Santamaría International Airport · Outsight with Datacom Costa Rica
SJO expanded its use of Outsight's LiDAR spatial-intelligence people-flow monitoring to new terminal areas.

Outsight, a Paris company, turns 3D lidar sensors into real-time maps of how people and vehicles move through an airport, from kerb to gate. Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) runs what Outsight calls the world's largest 3D lidar deployment.
Founded in 2018 with 51 to 200 staff, it has raised a 20 million US dollar seed and a 22 million Series A. Its software works with other manufacturers' sensors and is designed to be privacy-compliant; NEC combines it with biometrics at one undisclosed North American airport. It says its systems monitor 280 million passengers a year.
Rome Fiumicino (FCO) uses it across its Schengen common-use areas, and Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) runs its SHIFT platform with Groupe ADP.

Dallas/Fort Worth · Outsight
Dallas Fort Worth International Airport selected Outsight for a 3D lidar flow-monitoring programme in April 2025, when Airports International reported a board-approved award of $17.2 million chosen from four proposals. Outsight's SHIFT software processes lidar data at the edge to produce what the company calls a real-time motional digital twin of people and vehicles, without capturing images or phone data. Outsight describes the project as the world's largest 3D lidar deployment and says it will cover all terminals.
Outsight's December 2025 announcement says DFW "selects" the company and that the project "will provide" real-time data. A question-and-answer section on the same page describes curbside monitoring at one US airport's international terminal on both departures and arrivals levels, without naming DFW. An Airports International feature in December 2025 named the DFW twin and quoted the Digital Twin Consortium on motional twins.
Live operation across every terminal has not been shown in the sources. Sensor counts, the rollout schedule and accuracy against manual counts were unknown as of 16 October 2026.
Rome Fiumicino · Outsight
Outsight's 3D LiDAR passenger-flow monitoring was piloted at Rome Fiumicino's arrivals immigration area, and Aeroporti di Roma is to deploy it across nearly all Schengen common-use areas, Outsight announced on 23 April 2026. The announcement quotes an ADR senior vice president and describes real-time queue and congestion analytics.
Outsight said in 2024 that it had been selected for ADR's Runway to the Future innovation programme from 716 proposals. Outsight says the system is anonymous, captures no faces and works with under 50 milliseconds of latency.
Paris Charles de Gaulle · Outsight
Groupe ADP chose Outsight's 3D Smart Monitoring for two areas of Terminal 2E at Charles de Gaulle, one of them baggage claim, Outsight announced in January 2020.
No later source confirms the system in use.
Shift Perception is the core real-time 3D LiDAR data processing software module of Outsight's Spatial AI platform.
Airport operators lack real-time, accurate, and privacy-compliant visibility into the movement of thousands of passengers and vehicles across complex, multi-zone terminal environments. Traditional camera-based systems raise GDPR and personal identification concerns. Shift Perception provides anonymous 3D tracking using LiDAR light (which does not capture images or recognize individuals), enabling operators to understand flows, detect congestion, and respond to security events without collecting personal data.
Shift Analytics is the spatial analytics software module of Outsight's platform. It consumes the real-time object tracking output from Shift Perception and transforms it into KPI dashboards, zone-based occupancy counts, queue length measurements, waiting time analysis, historical trend data, and real-time alarms.
Airport operations teams need continuous, granular data on how passengers move through terminals to allocate staff, manage queues, optimize retail concession placement, and plan infrastructure investments. Traditional methods rely on manual observation or inaccurate Wi-Fi probe data. Shift Analytics provides objective, real-time spatial intelligence at scale, without any personal data collection.
Profile data from the Aerostack companies register; deployment records from the verified register. Evidence grades: T1 first-party confirmation, T2 credible reporting. See Our approach for how records are graded.
Aerostack tracks AI deployments across airports and airlines, with the published evidence behind each record. Photography is real aviation imagery. Record thumbnails may show the named airport or airline; other photographs do not.
