Nice's touch-free check-in experiment was a short, dated trial

Nice and Easier tested smartphone-controlled self-service check-in in late 2021. The idea reduced physical contact, but the record does not establish AI or long-term deployment.

Operating context and evidence

A passenger may interact with a kiosk using a personal device rather than touching shared equipment. The period of the experiment matters. Touch-free interaction was investigated in a particular public-health context, and the local airport confirmed a trial period of two months. It would be misleading to imply that the kiosk design is now a current AI assistant without later evidence.

Nice Airport documented a two-month trial starting December 2021. The original experiment addressed contact with a shared machine during the pandemic. That historical purpose should not be rewritten as a modern generative-AI passenger service.

A touch-free interface is a design choice, not necessarily a machine-learning application.

The operational problem

Operators need accessible self-service for travellers who do not have compatible phones.

What the sources report

The airport announcement establishes a time-bounded experiment with Easier.

Why it matters

The trial provides a clear historical technology milestone.

What remains unproven

Adoption results, continuation and any AI involvement have not been evidenced.

Editorial assessment

Nice's touch-free trial is useful historical context from 2021. Nothing here establishes sustained deployment or a modern AI assistant.
