Iberia puts generative AI agents into production on AWS
Iberia and AWS said in June 2025 that the airline has more than ten generative AI agents in production, including tools for maintenance engineers, customer service and its contact centre, alongside an AI travel assistant for customers. The same week it launched Iberia GPT inside ChatGPT. None of the agents has published results.
Iberia moved its technology onto AWS, migrating 1,638 servers, 1,235 databases and 572 applications, according to the AWS announcement, and built a real-time data platform that it says runs more than 50 AI models. The generative AI work sits on top of that base.
Customers see it in two places: an AI travel assistant in the Mi Iberia personal area, built on Amazon Bedrock, and Iberia GPT, a trip-planning assistant inside ChatGPT that the airline describes as an exploratory space hosted outside its usual service channels.

The work behind the evidence
01 / Deployed
More than ten agents in production
The operational problem
Maintenance engineers, contact centre agents and customer service staff spend much of their time finding information and handling routine requests that software can take on, if it is reliable enough.
What the evidence reports
Iberia and AWS said on 5 June 2025 that the airline has more than ten generative AI agents in production, naming tools for maintenance engineers, customer service assistants and contact centre work that uses behavioural analysis. Its AI travel assistant, built on Amazon Bedrock, gives personalised trip recommendations from customer profiles. Planned maintenance work includes predictive analytics and automated processing of technical documents. Gabriel Perdiguero, chief financial and technology officer, said the transformation "has fundamentally changed how we operate and serve our customers".
Operational significance
Maintenance engineering is among the named users, which takes generative AI beyond the customer channel and into technical operations. The announcement does not say which decisions each agent supports.
Evidence still needed
The agents are counted but not described individually, and no usage or accuracy figures are given. The release's most striking numbers, such as faster code releases, describe the cloud migration, not the AI.
Other records are shown separately, including non-AI technology and programmes at different stages of deployment. A register entry does not establish a measured AI benefit.
No other publicly listed records.
Editorial assessment
Iberia's AI is broad and early: a cloud and data rebuild, followed by a set of generative agents across the airline and two assistants for customers.
The profile would sharpen with a description of what the maintenance agents do, and with evidence that customers use the travel assistant and Iberia GPT.
