The picture at Casablanca Mohammed V
Operating context and evidence
Removing repeated manual steps can simplify a departure without any learned model. An automated bag drop does not have to use machine learning to be operationally worthwhile. It needs to print or associate the right labels, accept an eligible bag and route exceptions to an employee. Those are the tasks any airport-side evaluation ought to measure.
The task is straightforward. Bag-drop machines must read or associate baggage information, accept eligible items and send exceptions to staff, without necessarily calling a predictive model. That is why a generic claim about airport AI would be misplaced here.
ONDA and Royal Air Maroc were reported installing ten Terminal 1 bag-drop kiosks in December 2025. The appropriate measure is how quickly and reliably travellers complete baggage acceptance, including oversize bags and exceptions. A self-service kiosk alone cannot answer that question.
Automated bag acceptance is a concrete service with outcomes that could be measured.

Casablanca installed bag-drop kiosks, but the AI contribution is unproven
The operational problem
Staff must handle travellers whose baggage or documents cannot be processed automatically.
What the sources report
Moroccan reporting described the new Terminal 1 bag-drop facilities.
Why it matters
A known number and date provide a verifiable technology footprint.
What remains unprovenNo independent passenger-time savings or documented machine-learning role is established.

Editorial assessment
Casablanca's new bag-drop capacity is a straightforward passenger-processing development. It should not be used as proof of algorithmic decision-making without further sources.
