Airport intelligence / Da Nang

Da Nang's biometrics show why take-up matters

Da Nang introduced face-based processing, yet provincial reporting acknowledged limited adoption at some steps. The airport has subsequently added a priority lane for eligible digital-ID holders.

The picture at Da Nang

The available operating evidence

Identity technology depends on travellers knowing how to enrol and on a usable alternative when it fails. Unused equipment cannot deliver the claimed passenger benefit.

Da Nang introduced VNeID face verification at domestic check-in in July 2025, then a Level 2 VNeID priority lane in April 2026. The provincial observation about low biometric uptake offers a rare counterpoint to launch publicity: a technically available process will not shorten queues if travellers cannot or do not choose to use it.

A government account said earlier take-up had not met expectations, particularly at gates. That is more informative than assuming every installed reader is used.

Da Nang's biometrics show why take-up matters

The operational problem

Airport teams need identity processing that passengers understand and can actually complete.

What the sources report

Vietnamese reporting confirms the 2025 biometric check-in deployment and later priority-lane expansion.

Why it matters

Reported adoption problems provide an opportunity to evaluate usability rather than just hardware counts.

What remains unproven

Current usage by step, false matches and attributable processing-time differences remain unpublished.

VNeID Level 2 biometric priority lane at Da Nang International · Deployed · limited scope

Da Nang International Airport opened a priority biometric lane in its domestic terminal on 10 April 2026 for passengers with Level 2 VNeID electronic ID accounts, VOV reported. They can clear security and board by facial recognition or QR code without physical documents.

Biometric processing had been piloted at the airport since 2023.
