Thai Airways rolls out AI predictive maintenance and defect detection, with few details published

Thai Airways is rolling out AI tools that forecast when aircraft parts need servicing and detect defects, using live fleet data at Bangkok (BKK). It has also chosen AAR's Trax and Aerostrat software, which include AI planning tools. The airline has named no AI system and published no results.

Thai Airways is modernising its maintenance systems, with AI in both daily maintenance work and planning years ahead.

Its loyalty programme, Royal Orchid Plus, is moving to IBS Software's iLoyal platform; that record appears in the wider register.

The work behind the evidence

01 / Deployed · limited scope

Predicting when parts need attention

The operational problem

Unplanned component failures ground aircraft and disrupt the schedule, while servicing parts too early wastes money.

What the evidence reports

A corporate piece published by The Nation on 25 June 2026 describes Thai Airways using AI logistics systems that monitor fleet performance in real time at Suvarnabhumi (BKK), predictive maintenance that forecasts when parts need servicing, and automated defect detection models combined with live fleet data. It describes the work as being rolled out and claims fewer delays, lower maintenance costs and better turnaround times.

Operational significance

Predictive maintenance is one of the most established airline uses of AI, and its value shows up directly in aircraft availability.

Evidence still needed

The source is a corporate piece. It names no system or supplier, gives no figures for the benefits it claims, and does not separate what is live from what is planned.

New maintenance software with AI planning tools

The operational problem

Heavy maintenance must be forecast years ahead, and engineers resolving defects need the right information quickly.

What the evidence reports

AAR said on 5 January 2026 that Thai Airways had selected Trax's eMRO maintenance system, hosted in the cloud, and mobile apps, and Aerostrat's Aerros software for maintenance forecasting years ahead. The airline will deploy what AAR calls "proprietary Trax and Aerostrat artificial intelligence powered solutions" for advanced planning, workflow automation and help with resolving defects. Cherdphan Chotikhun, chief of technical, said the applications would help the airline "establish a state-of-the-art MRO operation that meets global standards".

Operational significance

The selection names the software and the tasks the AI will support, which the corporate account of predictive maintenance does not.

Evidence still needed

This is a selection with no launch date, and the AI tools are described only in outline.

Editorial assessment

Thai Airways' AI is aimed at maintenance, with a vendor programme under way and corporate claims of benefits.

Named systems and measured results, from the airline or its suppliers, are needed before this can be judged.
