Airline intelligence / Transavia France

Transavia France used ChatGPT to suggest destinations from what travellers enjoy

Transavia France launched Transav-IA in March 2023, a destination finder built with its agency Marcel on the technology behind ChatGPT. Users described what they liked and it suggested destinations from the airline's network of more than 120. The tool's own website no longer appears to be live.

Transavia France is the low cost airline of the Air France-KLM group, separate from the Dutch Transavia. Its documented AI has been aimed at inspiring travellers and answering simple questions.

In 2017 it launched Laura, a Facebook Messenger chatbot built with BlueLink, which answered common questions with every reply read by a member of staff before it was sent. That record appears in the wider register.

The operational problem

Travellers who have not chosen where to go are hard to reach with route and fare advertising.

What the evidence reports

TourMaG and Air Journal reported on 29 March 2023 that Transavia France and its agency Marcel had launched Transav-IA. Users described what they enjoy and the tool, using the text generation technology behind ChatGPT, suggested destinations from Transavia's network; TourMaG's test of handball, trail running and karaoke returned Porto. Commercial director Nicolas Henin said the aim was to offer "une manière innovante de découvrir nos 120 destinations en s'amusant", an innovative way to discover its 120 destinations while having fun.

Operational significance

The tool was an early airline use of generative AI with customers, launched within months of ChatGPT's public release.

Evidence still needed

Neither report said whether Transav-IA was permanent or a campaign. Its website no longer resolves, and no references to the tool from 2025 or 2026 have been found. No usage or booking figures were published.

Editorial assessment

Transavia France was early to try generative AI with customers, as a marketing tool rather than in service or operations.

Evidence of current AI use at the airline, beyond a 2023 campaign tool that appears to have ended, would bring this profile up to date.
