Delhi's next Digi Yatra trial moves identity checks to international departures
Delhi already uses Digi Yatra for domestic processing. The proposed late-2026 international departure pilot has a different scope and should remain labelled a trial.

The available operating evidence
Extending biometric processing across borders introduces new document and immigration boundaries.
The Hindu described a multi-airport international Digi Yatra pilot scheduled for October–December 2026, using e-passport scans and selfies at entry and security. International passengers have different document checks and border requirements from domestic travellers, which means that a pilot at airport entry and security cannot be treated as proof of a complete international biometric departure process.
The existing domestic service cannot establish that the international procedure has been approved or fully deployed. Immigration was deliberately outside the first trial phase.

What the record establishes
01 / Pilot
Delhi's next Digi Yatra trial moves identity checks to international departures
The operational problem
Airport and border teams must verify eligibility and identity while preserving an alternative to facial checks.
What the sources report
The Hindu identified Delhi among five pilot airports, with immigration deliberately outside the initial phase.
Why it matters
The bounded trial gives a concrete question about how identity verification works for eligible international passengers.
What remains unproven
No end-of-pilot decision, biometric matching performance or confirmed full service rollout is currently established.
Evidence supports a reported claim; it does not automatically establish a measured operating benefit.

The associated register entries remain available with their separate operator, source and deployment status. They are not additional evidence of a result claimed in this feature.
IDEMIA said in June 2023 that it had won the GMR Group contract to supply facial-recognition technology for DigiYatra at Delhi, Hyderabad and Goa airports.
Travel+Leisure Asia reported in June 2026 that DigiYatra was being made mandatory for international transfer passengers at Delhi and three other airports from 1 June 2026.

Where the evidence points
A useful later update will make clear whether immigration was added and under what approval.
The full deployment record retains the source history and qualification of reported results.
