The picture at Sunan Shuofang
An assistant designed for the place it serves
A terminal guide is useful only if it knows the airport's layout and can answer questions travellers actually ask. Wuxi Shuofang launched its Shuoshuo guide robot in December 2024 and subsequently described a passenger-service platform using a local DeepSeek model.
Government and technology sources identify the systems. They do not establish how often passengers receive a correct answer or when a staff member must intervene.
The airport also installed facial recognition at security and boarding in 2018. That older identity system is relevant background but should not be used as proof of the new assistant's intelligence.

A question to Shuoshuo
The operational problem
Passengers need directions and airport-specific information at the moment they reach an unfamiliar terminal.
What the sources report
Jiangsu authorities describe the Shuoshuo AI guide robot entering use in December 2024. Tencent Cloud material subsequently reported a passenger platform using a locally hosted DeepSeek model.
Why it matters
A locally configured model may help the service answer questions about airport facilities, but accuracy matters more than the model brand.
What remains unprovenCurrent deployment extent, question resolution and escalation performance have not been independently published.

What else is happening at Sunan Shuofang?
Facial matching introduced at the airport in 2018 remains an older, limited identity-processing record with no evidence of a measured link to the newer passenger AI service.

In July 2018 Sunan Shuofang brought face recognition into use at security and boarding.

A local model still has to know the right answer
Wuxi's case is specific enough to describe a real passenger-facing application.
The next evidence should come from actual questions and how frequently travellers receive dependable guidance.
