Automated border control gates at Bucharest Henri Coandă
Deployed · limited scope
The Romanian Border Police brought in a pilot of six automated border control gates at Bucharest Henri Coandă Airport, expandable to 24 by adding licences, it said on 4 March 2021. The gates compare the face image on the passport or ID-card chip with the traveller in front of them and query police databases, and they serve EU, EEA and Swiss holders of biometric documents aged over 18.
The Border Police published a further notice on the gates on 15 April 2025. Bucharest Airports awarded a framework agreement for new ABC gates to NAITEC and Aviation Management International, with a contract award notice dated 24 September 2026 and an estimated value of EUR 2,489,242 excluding VAT, according to OpenProcurements.
