Heathrow is one of the UK airports with facial-recognition eGates, according to GOV.UK and CN Traveler, which reported it on 20 May 2026.
From 6 October 2026 the Home Office began switching eGates to contactless mode, starting at East Midlands Airport with British citizens. Every eGate was due to be upgraded by early 2027, and no date had been given for Heathrow, the Home Office said on 6 October 2026.
