The US Transportation Security Administration installed its first six CAT-2 credential-authentication units at Raleigh-Durham International Airport in late June 2024, GovTech reported on 29 July 2024. CAT-2 takes the passenger's photo and compares it with the photo on their ID, and the remaining 19 older units were scheduled to be converted on 26 August.
The TSA says it does not store the photos, travellers under 18 are not photographed, and passengers can choose a manual ID check instead. CBS 17 quoted TSA spokesperson Mark Howell on the installation on 31 July 2024.
