Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province, launched the e-gate service at King Fahd International Airport, the Saudi Press Agency reported in July 2025. The agency said the service uses modern technologies and artificial intelligence, in line with the Saudi Aviation Strategy and Vision 2030.
The gates belong to a national programme led by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority. By March 2025 it had installed 152 e-gates using biometrics at four airports, Arab News reported on 11 March 2025.
Twenty of those are at Dammam, split equally between international departures and arrivals, according to Al Watan on 12 March 2025. The rest are at Jeddah with 70, Riyadh with 42 and Madinah with 20, the paper said. Okaz covered the Dammam launch.
